Long time ago in this mountain land lived two noble and powerful khans. Once a greedy and evil Khan stole his neighbor’s beautiful wife. After that, two families began to argue and fight with each other. Smart people advised evil Khan:
– Your enemy demand to gave him back his wife. You can fulfill his wish. Kill the woman and her body give to him. He will have nothing to say, because you would fulfill the requirement. Your heart will be calm, because he will not have a possibility to hold the woman you like… Greedy Khan liked the trick. To perform an evil plan, he gave the great funeral in the mountains. Many people gathered to visit. Seven red bulls were killed to become a funeral repast. When the last the seventh bull was killed, the evil Khan thrust a knife into the heart of his beloved. Hot blood spurted from the wound and sprinkled mountains – so far the blood have seen on the rocks now. Together with the crimson blood boiling water spurted from the wound, and hot stream flooded the valley. All the guests and numerous of relatives of the Khan-killer were killed in boiling water. The stream carried away the carcasses of red bulls that were prepared for the funeral repast. That is why the valley is called Jeti-Oguz that in Kyrgyz means – Valley of the Seven bulls.
This legend was recorded by the Russian writer – Ivan Sergeevich Sokolov-Mikitov, who was traveling around the Kyrgyz land and heard it from the local nomads.
The next destination will be the Jeti-Oguz Gogre. It is possible to stop at the yurts to taste local cuisine.
Jeti-Oguz is a mountain valley formed by the river of the same name that flows down to the Issyk-Kul from the northern slopes of Terskey Ala-Too; also it is a well-known resort, located in a valley at an altitude of 2200 m.
The resort is set on the basis of hot sulfurous waters, the healing power of which has been known since ancient times. The surroundings of the resort is very picturesque. In the gorge, where Jeti-Oguz canyon begins there is a beautiful place Kok-Jayik and waterfall “Maiden Braid”. It is very popular among tourists.

Craft tour
History of fulling technique is extremely interesting. Many centuries ago, nomads made from wool, not only covering for yurts and some simple household utensils, but also much more. For example, clothing, home furnishings (felt pads, rugs, mats for sleeping), pastoral equipment (bedding for newborn calves, parts for camel pack-saddle, saddle-cloths and blankets for horses, large felted bags for carrying goods).
Felt products (shoes, hats, bags, saddle blankets) are widely used outside the nomadic herding environment among settled agricultural population and the secrets of their production began to spread around the world.
We offer you master classes for felt. Skilled workers will show you the technique of manufacturing of felt products, such as the manufacture of the yurt, shyrdaks, chiy, felt, ormok.
In addition, tourists participating in the master class will be able to pick up the crafts made by craftswomen together with tourists.
You will also visit the museum, where you will see things of nomads’ life and portraits of famous people of Kyrgyzstan drawn using felt.
Falconry demonstration
Hunting has always been and remains one of the favorite hobbies of tourists. Since ancient times, for men of nomadic tribes hunting was a tradition and fun. Among the inhabitants of the Tien Shan you can still find “munushkor” – people practicing falconry. Tamed and trained bird (falcon, hawk, eagle) is a unique property of the hunter, like his horse or hound (Taigan). You can see the scene of hunting after hare. From generation to generation hereditary hunters inherited the secrets of theirs skill, and the age-old tradition of growing and training hawks. This majestic and formidable bird is able to beat in a tough fight, even a fox or a wolf. The climax moment of the eagle attack on a prey is a fierce struggle of winged predator and a victim and it could cause a hunter genuine excitement and true pride.
This type of hunting is the most common form of recreation for the nomadic people of Kyrgyzstan, and today it is a part of its national culture. If you want to become a member or just watch the process of hunting, we invite you to get acquainted with its traditions. The museum’s exposition reflects the history of the region, its natural resources, industrial development, agriculture, culture, education, health and tells about famous people of the region.
2) One of the popular tourist attractions in Kyrgyzstan is the Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Karakol. This is one of something like forty orthodox churches in the country, and a fine example of architecture. Its checkered history stands as a witness to the commitment and dedication of the community of the faithful. The story of the church goes back to July 1869, when Karakol was basically a garrison town established as an outpost on the edges of the Tsarist Russian Empire. A chapel was established in the city centre to serve the Cossacks and other troops sent here, and a small brick building on stone foundations was erected.
3) Completed in 1910, the mosque was built to serve Karakol’s community of Dungans (Chinese Muslims who fled persecution in the 1880s). Designed by a Chinese architect, the building is constructed entirely without nails and much of its imagery, including a wheel of fire, reflects the Dungans’ pre-Islamic, Buddhist past.
4) Karakol’s modest Regional Museum is located in the western part of Karakol on the one of the main streets of Karakol. The museum’s exposition reflects the history of the region, its natural resources, industrial development, agriculture, culture, education, health and tells about famous people of the region.
